When the United
Reformed and Methodist churches in Devizes joined together in 1984 they
decided to call themselves St. Andrew's Church.
Andrew, the
Disciple
In addition to the Scottish link, Andrew was the fisherman-disciple who
kept bringing people to Jesus.
He brought his brother Simon, he brought the boy with five loaves and
two fishes, and he brought some Greek people who wanted to see Jesus
(John 1:40; John 6:8 and John 12:22).
Andrew was a fisherman and proved himself skilled at catching people as
well as fish with his witness of Christ.
The Sailing
Ship
True to our name, we seek to bring others to know Jesus.
Therefore we chose the ship as our logo. The mast of our ship is the
cross and we are the sails fixed to the cross of Christ. Though a ship
in the harbour is safe, it fulfills its purpose as a ship when sailing
out at sea.
We believe it is right to put our trust in God.
We trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us in the right direction!
